Eves Surfbreaker Triathlon

This unique event, based at the Mt Maunganui Surf Club, combines surf, sun, sand and fun. It's also a great opportunity to burn off your Christmas dinner and most importantly blow out the cobwebs heading into the final prep for the Tauranga Half Ironman in just over a weeks time.

It had been 5 years since I last competed in this event finishing second back then so this year going one better was on my mind. Having not raced a sprint event like this for 10 months I was pretty nervous as to how I would manage over the 750m swim, 16km bike and 5km run. There were some top juniors racing and I knew they would be hard to beat over this distance.

Anyway the race went well, I got out what I wanted, a hard session on the lungs, and another win. Young Cameron Todd from Taupo gave me a real run for my money taking the race out hard in the swim and bike legs, it wasn't till only three quarters through the run I finally caught him. I manged to get a gap before heading down onto the beach to run the final 400m to the finish, this was the part I really wasn't looking forward too! I seem to sink in the sand but my slight advantage was just enough to hold off Cameron finish fast, phew we!!!

Pretty much all the work is down now for the upcoming half, I wont be updating till after the race as am going into hibernation now :-) so will write then!

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year
